Damp caught early costs far less to fix

If you have noticed damp patches, mould, tide marks or a musty smell in your home, it is worth getting it looked at sooner rather than later. Damp does not go away on its own. Left untreated it causes progressive damage to plaster, timber and the structure of your property.

We will visit, assess the situation properly and tell you honestly what we find. We only recommend work that is genuinely needed.

Damp proofing services in Essex

We treat the cause, not just the symptoms. Every damp proofing job starts with a proper inspection and an honest diagnosis.

Rising damp treatment

Rising damp occurs when ground moisture travels up through walls. We install a new damp proof course using chemical injection and replaster with salt-resistant materials.

Penetrating damp

Water entering through walls, around windows or from a defective roof. We identify the source, stop the ingress and repair any internal plaster damage.

Condensation and mould

Condensation is the most common form of damp in Essex homes and is often confused with rising damp. We treat cold spots with insulation, improve ventilation and replaster.

Replastering after damp treatment

Once treatment is complete, damaged plaster needs to come off and be replaced with the right materials. We handle this as part of the same job so you are not left finding a plasterer separately.

How our damp proofing process works

We do not guess. Every job starts with a proper inspection before any work is recommended.

1

Free inspection

We visit, assess the damp properly and identify the cause. No charge, no obligation, no sales pitch.

2

Clear written quote

We explain what we found, what needs doing and what it will cost. No jargon, no hidden extras.

3

Treatment carried out

Damp proof course injection, tanking, insulation or ventilation — whichever is the right solution for the problem.

4

Replastered and finished

Damaged plaster stripped and replaced with salt-resistant materials. Left clean, dry and ready to decorate.

Tom did an amazing job in my small and awkward spare room, re-plastering all the walls and sloped ceiling. He even took the time to take switches and sockets slightly off the wall to plaster behind, rather than just going around. Great communication throughout, and was happy to give me some advice about some other bits around the house I had questions about. Definitely would recommend and will definitely be contacting Tom again in the future for other jobs!

Tom responded very quickly to our request and was able to re-plaster our ceiling in a single day. He is very professional, absolutely reliable and has excellent communication skills. It was a delight having him on this job and we will undoubtedly recommend him and contact him again when we need any more plastering done.

Tom came to plaster all ceilings in a property with artex, plus a very bumpy wall. Tom is very professional, excellent and clear communication, fair price and clearly very good at plastering. No problems at all. Will use Tom’s services again. Highly recommended. 👍

This company rendered the exterior & also plastered our hall & landing. Turned up on time every day, working some very long days. Work is very good to a high standard. Tom spent an hour or so at the end of every day cleaning & tidying up. I would highly recommend this company & we will certainly use them again when/if the need arises.

    Damp proofing questions answered

Common questions from Essex homeowners about damp treatment.

Rising damp typically shows as tide marks low down on walls, peeling paint or plaster, and a musty smell at ground level. Condensation usually appears as black mould in corners, around windows and on cold walls — particularly in bedrooms and bathrooms. Penetrating damp tends to appear as damp patches after heavy rain, often in patches rather than rising from the floor. The honest answer is that it can be hard to tell without a proper inspection, which is why we visit first before recommending anything.

Condensation is a form of damp but it has a different cause and a different treatment. It happens when warm moist air meets a cold surface — typically poorly insulated walls or around cold bridges in the building. It is extremely common in older Essex properties. The treatment involves insulating the cold surfaces, improving ventilation and sometimes increasing the heating. Simply painting over black mould does not fix the underlying problem.

A chemical damp proof course injection involves drilling a series of holes into the mortar course at low level and injecting a silicone-based cream that soaks into the masonry and creates a water-repellent barrier. Once cured, this stops moisture rising through the wall. After the injection the damaged plaster above is removed and replaced with salt-resistant render and plaster to give you a clean, dry finish.

Yes — and this is one of the main advantages of using us. Damp treatment without replastering leaves your walls looking damaged and unfinished. Because we are plasterers as well as damp specialists, we handle the full job from treatment through to replastering in one visit. You are not left finding a separate plasterer once the treatment is done.

The cost depends on the type of damp, how widespread it is and how much replastering is needed afterwards. A condensation treatment to a single wall is a very different job to rising damp affecting a ground floor throughout. We always visit first, assess the problem properly and give you a clear written quote before any work starts. There is no charge for the inspection and no obligation to go ahead.
