Do I need to plaster before decorating?

Not always — if existing walls are sound, smooth and in good condition, they can be prepared and painted without plastering first. However if walls are uneven, cracked, blown or have been stripped back, plastering first will give a much better end result. Because we plaster and decorate, we will always give you an honest view of what the walls need before the decorating starts.

How long after plastering can you paint?

Fresh plaster typically needs two to four weeks to dry fully before painting, depending on the thickness of the coat, the room temperature and ventilation. We always advise on drying time specific to the job. If you paint too soon the moisture trapped in the plaster can cause the paint to peel and flake. We will not paint until the walls are properly ready — it is not worth cutting corners at this stage.

Do you do wallpapering as well as painting?

Yes — we hang wallpaper to a precise, bubble-free finish. We work on all wall types including freshly plastered surfaces, plasterboard and existing walls. Feature wallpaper on a single wall or full room wallpapering, we will advise on surface preparation to make sure the paper goes on properly and lasts.

Can you do panelling and feature walls?

Yes — wall panelling and feature walls are increasingly popular and something we do regularly across Essex homes. We design, fit and paint the panelling as part of the same job.
